The downtown Murfreesboro project entitled "The Bottoms" is still on the drawing board for planners. That area includes Cannonsburgh Village on the South side of Broad Street.

The goal is to transform the light industrial area into something that draws the attention of local residents and visitors alike. The hope is to build retail businesses, offices and condominiums.

Mayor Shane McFarland told WGNS...

One of the many arguments about potential changes to the area in question revolves around the homeless that are in that area and the fact that they utilize the services of The Journey Home, a non-profit that serves food to those in need daily...

McFarland said the best way for change to happen in The Bottoms, will be for a developer to make the first investment in building something that will attract positive attention.
