Trey Lee has been promoted to interim Assistant Superintendent for Engineering and Construction for Rutherford County Schools.
"Mr. Lee has worked in construction management of school facilities in Rutherford County for nearly 12 years," Director of Schools-Elect Bill Spurlock said. "During his tenure, he has served as a project manager in the construction of facilities which total over $261 million. He brings both experience and passion to the position."
Lee has overseen multiple building projects including Oakland Middle School, Whitworth-Buchanan Middle School, Brown's Chapel Elementary and the under-construction Rockvale High School, which will open in August 2019.
Lee's roots run deep in Rutherford County.
His family has lived in the Smyrna area for many generations. In fact, Lee Road is named after them and is near the recently opened Rocky Fork Middle School -- another one of the projects Lee oversaw as project manager for Rutherford County Schools.
"I'm honored and humbled for the opportunity given to me by Mr. Spurlock," Lee said. "I look forward to being able to support the faculty and staff of our school system by continuing to implement new programs and building techniques while at the same time improving and maintaining the buildings and facilities we already have."
Current Director of Schools Don Odom, who is retiring June 30, praised Lee's work performance with the district and his track record of completing projects on time and within budget.
"In the private sector he was the senior project manager for the Cookeville Regional Medical Center and numerous other projects for Hardaway Construction Company," Odom said. "He is a Level I Storm water inspector and is on the Town of Smyrna Planning Commission. I was pleased to learn that he was interested in continuing his relationship with the Rutherford County Schools."
Lee succeeds Gary Clardy, who is retiring from the assistant superintendent role but will be remaining as a part-time consultant with the school district.
