An Old Hickory man was arrested last week on charges of impersonating a dentist in nearby Coffee County. The question that lingers, how many people from around the area sought treatment at Amazing Smiles?
We spoke to Richard Bureau of Murfreesboro who told us there is more to this story. Bureau said that he bought a pair of dentures from Michael Harold Richardson in Rutherford County, not Coffee County where the arrest was made.
Richardson, 55, was named in sealed indictments by the October term of the Coffee County Grand Jury. Richardson was also charged with aiding in impersonation of a licensed professional. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released after posting a $30,000 bond.
According to the indictments, between March and April 2013 Richardson “practiced or pretended to be licensed to practice a profession for which a license” is required. He and his wife operated the Amazing Smiles dental clinic on North Jackson Street. No charges have been filed in Rutherford County at this time. However, the victim whom we spoke to told us this so called dentist, also had an office in Lebanon. But, no charges have been filed in Wilson County either.
According to investigators in Coffee County, after closing the Tullahoma location the couple moved their operation to Columbia where police there are investigating allegations against them for practicing dentistry without a license.
Richardson’s wife was arrested the week before he was for her part in the dental clinic in Tullahoma. Tullahoma Police Detective Tyler Hatfield is investigating.
