LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County Schools cut the ribbon on La Vergne High School's new three-story, 80,000-square-foot addition Sunday (August 16th) afternoon.

Crews completed the expanded facility four months ahead of schedule. The new space offers 27 classrooms, a lecture hall, a forensics lab for criminal justice students, and dedicated labs for physics, chemistry, biology, marketing, and STEM. LaVergne High serves approximately 1,800 students in grades 9-12.

Principal Dr. Theowauna Hatchett, a La Vergne High School graduate, highlighted the personal impact of the project.

"Having sat in these classrooms myself, it makes it especially meaningful to me," Hatchett said. "I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to lead this school and shape its future. It means more to me than I can adequately express."

Hatchett reminded students in attendance that the facility belongs to them and encouraged them to take full advantage of the new learning spaces.

"An investment of this magnitude says your community believes in you," Hatchett said.
