RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County high school football programs made a major statement in the latest Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) state poll entering Week 3 region play. Four local teams competing in Region 3-6A picked up votes from state writers, while Middle Tennessee Christian School surged into the Division II-A top five.

Oakland High School continues to lead Class 6A as the consensus number one team in Tennessee. The Patriots picked up 21 first-place votes and 210 total points to retain their top ranking after starting the season 2-0.

Riverdale High School moved back up to the number 2 spot in Class 6A with a 1-1 record. Blackman follows closely behind, climbing to number 4 after building a 2-0 record. The two play this week, a game on WGNS and Big G TV. Rockvale High School also earned state recognition by picking up 14 points and being just outside the top 10, placing four Region 3-6A rivals in the state poll spotlight.

Maryville sits at number 3 in Class 6A, while Ravenwood takes number 5. Southwind holds number 6, Oak Ridge ranks seventh, Antioch holds eighth, Whitehaven enters the poll at ninth, and Brentwood rounds out the top 10.

Middle Tennessee Christian School climbed into the Division II-A rankings. The Cougars claim the number 5 spot in the state following a 1-1 start.

Friendship Christian leads Division II-A at number 1, followed by Nashville Christian at number 2. Jackson Christian ranks third, while University School of Jackson holds the fourth spot.

The TSWA releases updated statewide high school football rankings every Monday during the regular season, tracking teams through the BlueCross Bowl state championships in December.
