Inflation and the workforce - How it impacts all of us locally

Rutherford County does not stand alone for a price increase in just about every sector of business. State Representative Charlie Baum from Murfreesboro, TN told WGNS NEWS that inflation is causing issues for families and businesses throughout Tennessee.

Looking back at 2021 and going into the first two months of 2022, the Consumer Price Index is between 5% to 6.5% nationally. Baum noted that one of the problems is the workforce…

Baby boomer’s are those who were born between the end of World War II in 1945 and up until the mid-1960’s.

The local MTSU professor also highlighted the large number of workers who have yet to return to the workplace out of a fear of getting COVID. Then, Baum talked about the number of workers who have made more money by staying out of work altogether…



Dr. Baum, who lives in Murfreesboro, represents District 37 in Rutherford County.

Unemployment Figures

In Rutherford County, the latest month for unemployment statistics show our local community sitting at a low 2.6% jobless rate. New numbers are expected to be released later this month, which will give WGNS listeners insight to January unemployment figures.
