Tom Sissom said, “I am a middle Tennessee native and was raised working on our family farm. I came to MTSU in the mid 80’s and decided to make Rutherford County my home because I love the people and the region.”

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has been plagued by numerous scandals and lawsuits in recent years. Tom Sissom is confident that he has the temperament, training and experience to correct and improve the Sheriff’s office at every level. From earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence at the Nashville School of Law to extensive FBI LEEDA training, his Criminal Justice Administration degree from MTSU, World Outreach Church security team member for 22+ years, and leading dozens of fellow officers on a daily basis for many years—Sissom is the most qualified candidate for Rutherford County Sheriff.

“Every citizen should feel safe in their neighborhoods, schools, churches and businesses. One of the best ways to achieve public safety is to ensure that every deputy and employee at the Sheriff’s office and jail is properly paid, trained and fully supported—that will be job number one for me and my administration,” stated Tom Sissom.

Tom Sissom said, “While I am very proud of my years as a police officer, I am just as proud of my years as a Scout Leader and Merit Badge Instructor as well as being a husband, father and grandfather.”

The Rutherford County Republican Primary Early Voting period for Sheriff is April 13-28 and Election Day is May 3, 2022.
