Child Sex Abuse Victims and Their Family Can Have an Even Harder Time around and After the Holidays

(Rutherford County, TN) Child Sexual Abuse has a lasting impact on a child’s well-being into adulthood, which is why it is important to help victims receive the proper help within a healthy timeline. Many kids tend to feel as if the sex abuse is somehow their fault, which could not be further from the truth. Research also shows that children who are victimized in their youth are more likely to turn to drugs or alcohol as a means of coping with the aftermath, without understanding why they are turning to self-medication.   

As for parents… Case Worker Anahi Castillo with the Child Advocacy Center in Murfreesboro said it’s important for those who experienced child sex abuse to receive the right help… The local social worker highlighted how this time of year can be even tougher on a child or teen if the suspect that caused the abuse was not part of their holiday activities, which can cause guilt and confusion on multiple levels…
