While Rutherford County Schools continue to be one of the fastest growing districts in Tennessee, Murfreesboro City Schools are also growing, but their growth rate has slowed slightly… To better plan for growth, Trail stated…

To make way for a future city school in West Murfreesboro, the City and Middle Tennessee Electric agreed to a land swap. The property Murfreesboro is trading is in the area of I-840 and Burt Knob Road near Veterans Parkway. The electric providers land is in West Murfreesboro, one mile south of the City property near Veterans Parkway. The land owned by MTE is in a more residential area, while Murfreesboro’s land is in an area that will eventually serve as Middle Tennessee Electric’s Headquarter Office.

Once the land deal is complete, the City of Murfreesboro will build a new city school on the property. Currently, there are already several schools along or near Veterans Parkway, but each school serves different areas… The city schools that are currently off of Veterans Parkway include Overall Creek Elementary, Salem Elementary, and Rutherford County operated Barfield Elementary.
