(MURFREESBORO) UPDATE: A dump truck wrecked and overturned on I-24 at exit 76 (Medical Center Parkway) Thursday morning. The interstate had to be closed down at around 3:30 Thursday morning, as a result of the crash.  Murfreesboro Police Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told WGNS in an email, “The dump truck somehow clipped the overpass, overturned, and caught fire.” Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue was quickly on-the-scene and helped extinguish the blaze.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the large dump truck was able to escape the flames, but still suffered injuries in the wreck. Paramedics were on the scene to treat the driver.

In addition, in addition to grid-lock morning traffic on the interstate--roads connecting I-24 to Broad Street in Murfreesboro were also more crowded than usual, due to westbound interstate drivers diverting for alternative routes. The westbound lane is the lane of travel towards Nashville. Lisa Marchesoni told WGNS the interstate reopened around 7:40 Thursday morning.
