mes Herbert Barrett Jr. (Jim), age 67, of Woodbury, graduated to Heaven on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, during his sleep at his residence. Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his parents, James Herbert Barrett, Sr. and Bobbye Jean Neely Barrett, and his brothers, Timothy and Mark.

Mr. Barrett grew up in Leanna and attended Walter Hill School, graduating from Oakland High School. Mr. Barrett, following in his Daddy’s footsteps, made a lifelong career working in construction. It did not matter if it was a deck, an entire home, a church building, or a simple mini barn; he was an expert at building anything asked of him. He even enjoyed crafting all the furniture for his home.

In his younger years, Mr. Barrett was an avid and well-known coon hunter. One of his proudest hunting accomplishments was winning 1st place in the St. Jude Benefit Hunt during the 1990s with his prized dog, Billie. While he had many coon dogs through the years, his most favored were Joe, Billie, Scotty, and Trauma.

While he took great pride in his construction career and ability to train “an ole coon hound,” his greatest joy was his family, particularly his grandchildren. His home was filled with pictures of every aspect of his family.

Mr. Barrett enjoyed attending church, and his relationship with the Lord was genuine.

Mr. Barrett is survived by his son, James H. Barrett III and daughter-in-law Pamela; his grandchildren, Annie and Mikayla; brothers Bill Barrett and wife, Debbie; Mickey Barrett and wife, Kim; Bryan Barrett and wife, Heather; nieces, nephews, several cousins, as well as stepchildren Michael, Tim, and Sarah; and their children.

Visitation with the family will be at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home on Monday, December 11, from 4–7 pm. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 12 at 1 pm. Burial to follow at Coleman Cemetery on Old Woodbury Hwy. His son, James (Jimmy), will officiate the service. His beloved brothers and other loved ones will serve as pallbearers.
