Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr focuses on Concerns:
- Attack on Rutherford County by State of Tennessee. There was a senate amendment that allowed Davidson County students to be educated in Rutherford County and be paid for with this county's tax dollars covering the expense. That was defeated with the voucher bill, but the county mayor said he understands it will be presented again during next year's general assembly.
- Tennessee's GA just passed legislation that will take away prroximately $5-6 million from next year's K-12 school capital projects funding for Rutherford County.
- County must pay to educate illegal immigrants pouring into the school system. This is required by the Federal government, but no funding is designated to pay for it.
- During the first 3-months of the 2023-24 school year, Rutherford County Schools (including both Rutherford County and Murfreesboro City systems) saw an increase of 700 new ESL students who either could not speak English or had a difficult time soing so.
- Not only is the Rutherford County population exploding, but our school system is also. Rutherford County is attracting young persons with children. NOW--Rutherford County is the 3rd largest school system in Tennessee. Only Nashville and Memphis are larger--Metro is #1 and Memphis is #2. Carr says Rutherford County schools are larger that Knox or Hamilton counties.
- County Mayor Carr said, "NO PROPERTY TAX INCREASE this coming fiscal year for Rutherford County, TN!"
