RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - While last year's property taxes throughout the county were due on the first Monday in October, you still have time to submit those payments. Homeowners have until February 28, 2025, to pay their 2024 property taxes without incurring any added interest charges.

Seniors who are already thinking about 2025 property taxes, it may be a good idea to take advantage of the senior tax freeze program. Rutherford County Trustee Teb Batey told us… Again, to be approved for a senior property tax freeze, your annual income from all sources cannot exceed $60,000 annually and at least one of the homeowners in the household has to be 65-years of age or older.

Additional property tax relief programs are available through the trustee's office to assist homeowners with their property taxes. Some of the options include tax relief for seniors, disabled persons, or veterans, which helps cover a portion of your property tax. It’s also important to note that homes protected by a trust are also eligible for the tax relief programs, as long as the program guidelines are met.

WGNS also asked Batey about the number senior homeowners that have paid off their house, verses those who still have a mortgage… The trustee then highlighted how he has seen an increase in the number seniors getting a reverse mortgage…
