UPDATE

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - A single-vehicle SUV crashed into a utility pole around 6:45AM Friday morning (6/6/2025) on NW Broad Street at Bell Jewelers. One pole was downed in the busy roadway, and another also needed replacing. The entire intersection was closed to traffic as vehicles were detoured onto Medical Center Parkway.

MTE linemen worked throughout the morning to replace the damaged poles in front of Bell Jewelers. During that the morning drive-time period, officials were urging motorists to seek alternate routes.

By 11:00AM, only one inbound lane remained closed between Checkers and Bell Jewelers, but shortly after that, all lanes reopened and traffic flow has returned to normal.

A special thank you to Middle TN Electric's crew (MTE), Murfreesboro Police who kept traffic flowing, Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue who were there along with Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service to offer aid to any injured, and City of Murfreesboro staff who helped coordinate this total team effort. It was a job well done!

 Original Story

Murfreesboro, TN – (WGNS) — A serious wreck earlier today has led to the closure of both inbound and outbound lanes of NW Broad Street at Medical Center Parkway, causing major traffic disruptions throughout the area. The crash resulted in downed power lines and a toppled telephone pole, prompting emergency closures and traffic diversions.

Crews from MTE remain on the scene working to restore power and clear debris. Officials say the closure will last for several more hours.

Traffic is being diverted from NW Broad Street onto Memorial Boulevard and Old Fort Parkway at the Bridge over Broad. Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes and expect delays.

As of now, one lane is open on Medical Center Parkway for traffic heading from West College Street toward Memorial Boulevard. The two through lanes in the opposite direction—Memorial toward West College—are open but traffic is being manually directed by officers, as traffic signals remain down.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are asking the public to avoid the area if possible. There have been no reports of serious injuries so far.

Check back for updates as crews work to reopen the roadway and restore services.
