Storms Could Be Strong/Severe Today

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN (WGNS) – Residents in Rutherford County and much of Middle Tennessee should stay weather-aware today as forecasters warn of the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the region is under a Level 2 of 5 (Slight) risk for severe weather, meaning isolated strong storms are possible. The main threats include damaging straight-line winds, localized flooding, and possibly hail. While the risk of tornadoes is low, conditions could change quickly.

Storms are expected to begin developing this afternoon, with the highest chances for severe weather occurring between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Scattered showers may continue into the early evening hours.

Rainfall could be heavy at times, especially in areas that experience multiple rounds of storms.
