Focus on Murfreesboro, TN with Mayor Shane McFarland (Note: the mayor had a previous appointment, and so the broadcast is for a half-hour. This recording begins abruptly, but it contains 100% of the content):
- Homeless problem along Greenway around Cannonsburgh Village. Mayor is getting concerns from women who used to enjoy that axrea, but now do not feel safe.
- UPDATE on daylighting Town Creek
- Murfreesboro Police addressing merchants concerns with homeless loitering in historic downtown area. One merchant told police that a homeless person chased his employee the other day. MPD now has a full-time police patrol downtown.
- Concerns with fatal crashes at certain intersections. Mayor said that the big problem is too many drivers run red lights. It was suggested that with MPD now having full staff, that a team of officers are assigned to target the major intersections and give out large numbers of traffic citations for violating laws.
- Text question about need for more downtown parking. Mayor McFarland said the parking for the courts is full again, even with the new downtown garage that's across from the courts. A listener text a question re: why can't they park at the old City Lot where the Methodist Church used to be located? Mayor said, "We're working on that. It should be very soon."
- UPDATE: Murfreesboro Transit building will open later this month (July). It will be a hub for Murfreesboro Transit, WeGo bus from Nashville, and Greyhound. (Note: mayor discussed how other cities are buying tickets for homeless and they are dropping these persons off in Murfreesboro. He noted that Greyhound does not drop-off in Franklin, and the City is trying to make arrangements here as well.)
