Rutherford County Sheriff's Office offers "peer support". Deputy Chris Beach tells more:

  • Peer Support Group: made-up of fellow officers who have undergone training to assist other deputies who have witnessed fatal crashes, shootings, etc.
  • A special app. identifies officers who are sent on calls that mnight have a damaging psychological impact on officers and notifies the Peer Support Group leaders. The leaders then talk with the deputies and determine if Peer Counseling would be beneficial.
  • Deputy Beach also discusses today's "too much technology" citizens, who are so into virtual games, cell phones, computers, etc.--that they are not in a "reality world".  That's why there is "road rage" that ends with shootings,  or violence in schools, homes, etc.
  • He also talks about how some parents grow-up in this "virtual reality world" and are not offering parenting guidance to their children. The child is left to grow-up the best they can, while the parents continue to be lost "in a virtual world".
  • Deputy Beach raved the help offered by the Tennessee Public Safety Network. That organization offers classes in "critical incident STRESS DEBRIEFING SCHOOL". He encouraged the public to visit the school's website: www.TNPSN.org and learn about the program. This is a non-profit organization whose funding has been reduced or grants eliminated . Donations to keep them going are encouraged through their website.
