Rutherford County SRO with Sgt. Dustin Cox and SRO Sam Trubee discuss how Rutherford County Sheriff Truman Jones started Tennessee's first School Resource Officer (SRO) programs.
- In a rapidly changing society, the SRO's main job is to keep students safe while attending school.
- Second is to "build a bridge of trust" between law enforcement and youth. The SRO hopefully will become a mentor and not police that they distrust.
- SRO helps children who are unable to purchase school clothes or are special needs students. They help them feel a part of the whole education system by helping them feel a part of the student body. SRO has two fundraisers yearly (Cornhole Tournament and Golf Tournament) to purchase clothes, toys at Christmas, or fun field trips for special needs students.
- The SRO GOLF TOURNAMENT is Sept. 27, 2025 at the Old Ft. Golf Course. The first shotgun start is 7:45AM and that is full. A second shotgun start is 1:45PM that afternoon. There are only a few openings in that one. Quickly, contact SRO Sgt. Cox at 615-995-8919 or email dcox@rcsotn.org. Price is $100 per player or $400 per team of four. Sloan Cycle is giving away a 4-wheeler in their "Hole In One"! They also will have auction items and more. They still need additonal sponsors. Contact Sgt. Cox.
- REALITY CHECK is an SRO program that works with students who are having issues at school and with life in general. Parents can contact the SRO program at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office as one way to enter the REALITY CHECK program. The other is with the court system requiring the student to attend. In some cases, parents are also required to attend.
