Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr:
- Groundbreaking 10AM at the Rutherford County Forensics Center on Weakley Ln. in Smyrna. This is on a 20-acre tract of county owned land on which the County Clerk's Smyrna office is located along with a county convenience center.
- The Forensics Center wil. cost $15-million and is expected to be open in the 1st quarter of 2027 (estimated 16-month build period).
- The new Forensics Center is estimated to be able to do 1,000 autopsies per year, and currently Rutherford County requires around 300 autopsies. That leaves 700 available for use by area counties.
- The Public Safety Building in Christiana will have a public opening on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025. The Rutherford County Health & Public Safety Buiding is near Plainview Elementary School on Otter Pond Way in Christiana. The facility is in the final stages of construction. When the grand opening comes in October, fire and ambulance bays, community shelter for F-4 tornados, communication equipment for faster emergency coordination.
- Rutherford County is signed an "intent to lease" agreement for the downtown Murfreesboro former Bank of America, corner of E. Main and Spring Streets. This is a 3-story structure that was constructed 49-years ago (1978). The agreement gives the County 120-days to make a "due dilligence" study to use the area for County offices. If the County's study does not find negative issues, they wil move forward and move County offices in the old Goldstein's building (#1 Public Square) to the former Bank of America around mid-2027. Those county offices include: Rutherford County Election Commission, Rutherford County Planning Department, Rutherford County Building Codes, Rutherford County Trustee Department, County Mayor Carr hopes to renovate and preserve the historic Goldstein's building for use as a County Museum.
