Murfreesboro, TN - The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County is opening the doors the for a free forum titled “Civic Education: Vouchers, Charter Schools, and School Choice.” It will be next week on Monday evening 5:30 to 7:00PM at the Rutherford County Board of Education, 2240 Southpark Drive.

This event promises a rare opportunity to hear directly from a wide range of education leaders—local and statewide—who will unpack the policies shaping Tennessee’s public education landscape. Whether you’re a parent, educator, student, or simply a concerned citizen, this is a chance to explore how school choice, charter expansion, and voucher programs are influencing funding, access, and accountability across our schools.

The panel includes voices from public school systems, charter institutions, private education, and policy organizations. That includes Rutherford County Schools Director Dr. Jimmy Sullivan along with Murfreesboro City Schools Director Dr. Trey Duke, along with Tess Stovall of the Tennessee Charter Commission and Sean Corcoran from Vanderbilt’s public policy program. The lineup reflects a broad spectrum of experience and insight. Attendees will also hear from Amanda Moore, Angela Wynn, Phillip Schwenk, Matt Tiller, Brian Runion, and Dr. Jeff McCann.

A Q&A session will follow the panel discussion, giving audience members a chance to ask questions and engage directly with the speakers.

“The League of Women Voters is committed to promoting informed and active participation in government,” said a League spokesperson. “By bringing together diverse voices in education, we hope to help our community engage more deeply with the policies shaping our local schools.”

No registration is required, and all are welcome. Come ready to listen, learn, and ask questions that matter.
