NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) - Three Rutherford County high school football players have been named semifinalists for the 2025 Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards. Oakland High School teammates Craig Tutt and Joel (joe-EL) Wyatt, along with Sean Birkofer of Providence Christian Academy, are among the top players in the state recognized this week by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.
The awards, now in their 41st year, honor the best high school football players in Tennessee in nine classifications, as well as the state's top kicker. Semifinalists are selected based on performance during the 2025 regular season, with academics and character also taken into consideration.
Tutt and Wyatt represent Oakland in Division I, Class 6A, where they played key roles in another strong season for the Patriots. Tutt has anchored the offense with his playmaking ability, while Wyatt’s presence on the defensive side has made him one of the top defenders in the classification.
Birkofer, named a semifinalist in Division II, Class A, has been a standout for Providence Christian, emerging as one of the most explosive playmakers in the private school division.
Five semifinalists were named in each classification. The list will be narrowed to three finalists per category on Tuesday, November 25, during a televised announcement on Titans Football hosted by Taylor Zarzour and Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy on WKRN News 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The announcement will also stream on TennesseeTitans.com and the team’s social media platforms.
The winners will be honored at the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards ceremony on Tuesday, December 9 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Each category winner will receive a Mr. Football trophy, while the other finalists will take home plaques. Remaining semifinalists will receive certificates recognizing their achievement.
TSSAA Executive Director Mark Reeves praised the continued partnership with the Tennessee Titans, saying the organization has played a major role in highlighting the accomplishments of student-athletes across the state.
This is the 19th year the Titans have sponsored the Mr. Football Awards.
