Calvin Frank Christensen, age 88, of Murfreesboro, TN was called home to the loving arms of his Savior on Saturday morning, December 13, 2025 serenaded by his favorite hymns and surrounded by the warmth of his loving family.
Calvin was born on November 23, 1937 in the cabin on his parent’s farm in New Lisbon, WI. He was the son of Chester and Tyla Christensen. From an early age, he learned the values of faith, discipline, service, and perseverance which guided him throughout his life. After graduating from New Lisbon High School, he served in the Army.
On June 28, 1963, Calvin married his soulmate, Maree Christensen. For 61 years, they cultivated a beautiful marriage centered around their mutual faith in God, their love for family, and their shared community. Calvin devoted his life not only to Maree and their children, Terri, Traci, and Paul, but also to their spouses, their grandchildren, and their great grandchildren, as the patriarch of an ever-expanding family bound by love and faith.
For years, Calvin was a devoted basketball coach, mentoring athletes on and off the court. He believed coaching was a calling—not just to teach the game, but to shape character, build discipline, and instill confidence.
Calvin thrived off building relationships. Whether lingering over a cup of coffee with a friend, greeting visitors at church, or soaking up time with his family, he had the unique ability to both entertain with his quick wit and to spiritually encourage with his immense knowledge of the scripture. He never missed an opportunity to share his joy in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Above all, Calvin Christensen was a man of deep faith. He was an ordained deacon. Until his health declined, he was an active member of Ward’s Grove Baptist Church, where he encouraged all who knew him. His faith was evident in his kindness, humility, and unwavering belief in God’s goodness and grace. His constant encouragement to his family to “Stay in the Battle” was demonstrated by his own example throughout his long life.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Maree Joy Christensen, by his parents, Chester and Tyla Christensen, and by his brother, Jack Christensen.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Terri Moorman (Doug), Traci Byers (Ron), and Paul Christensen (Jennifer). His grandchildren include Doug Moorman (Sylvette), Brittany Lake (Brett), Ashley Griesser (Michael), Matt Moorman (Samantha), Chelsea Moehle (Thomas), Cali Smith (Mike), Nate Moorman, Nic Moorman (Berkeley), Randal Byers (Ellie), Tiffany Barnes (Micajah), Richard Byers, Ryan Byers (Karen), and Luca Christensen. His great-grandchildren include Brielle, Bayleigh, Legacy, Parker, Charlie, Kolu, Cristiano, Tommy, Remington, Annabelle, Everlie, Casen, River, Haytham, Gannicus, and Arzhela.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, December 19, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, December 19, 2025 at 1:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel where family and friends will gather to honor a life so faithfully lived.
