UPDATE: LA VERGNE, Tenn. — Traffic fully reopened at the intersection of Nir Shreibman Boulevard and Ramsden Avenue following a serious multi-vehicle crash that prompted evacuations and a prolonged road closure Thursday night, according to La Vergne Police. The crash involved two four door sedans and early on, was blamed on reckless driving.

Police confirmed at 10:21 p.m. that traffic was flowing normally again, with police opening the roadway prior to making the social media post roughly 15 minutes after the 10 p.m. hour, once emergency crews safely cleared the scene. In a social media update, the department thanked nearby residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation during the response.

Earlier in the evening, authorities say they had to shut down Nir Shreibman Boulevard and Ramsden Avenue after a crash involving reckless driving resulted in a struck gas main, creating a hazardous situation for the surrounding area. Police issued an urgent advisory around 7:50 p.m., asking residents to evacuate the immediate area and told motorists to avoid the intersection while emergency personnel worked to secure the scene.

Responding officers reported two vehicles were heavily damaged, both suffering major front-end damage. One vehicle appeared to be a 4-door Lincoln MKZ front wheel drive model, while the second was believed to be a late-model Toyota or Lexus four-door sedan. Both sedans were white in color.

The severity of the wreckage caused by the two cars required an extended road closure as crews addressed the crash and invstigated the actions that led to the accident. As the investigation began, utility crews arrived on the scene to properly cut-off and fix any gas line hazard.

PRIOR TO ROADWAY REOPENING: Emergency personnel remained on scene for several hours to ensure the area was safe before reopening the roadway. According to a witness, after at least an hour had passed, nearby residents and employees at businesses adjacent to the crash scene were given the all-clear to return. Prior to that clearance, officers advised residents and motorists to evacuate the immediate area out of an abundance of caution due to a gas main believed to have been struck during the crash.

A gas main is a large underground pipe that serves as a primary conduit for distributing natural gas throughout communities, neighborhoods, and cities. Typically located beneath streets or along property lines, these high-capacity pipelines supply gas to smaller service lines that rise above ground and connect to a meter before being tied into residential and commercial buildings. It is not uncommon for these above-ground components, which are part of the gas supply system, to be struck during vehicle accidents.

Residents were advised to continue exercising caution in the area as normal traffic patterns resumed.

PREVIOUS REPORT: La VERGNE, TN (WGNS) - A serious wreck in the northern end of Rutherford County Thursday (1/29/2026) night forced an unexpected evacuation after a gas main was damaged in the crash. La Vergne Police say the collision happened at the intersection of Nir Shreibman Boulevard and Ramsden Avenue, where two automobiles were involved.

According to a police spokesperson, reckless driving led to the crash, and during the impact a gas main was struck. That immediately raised safety concerns for people living nearby, prompting officers and emergency crews to clear the area until the leak could be contained.

Residents in the immediate vicinity were asked to leave their homes as a precaution while crews worked to secure the scene. The roadways around the intersection were shut down for several hours as utility workers and first responders handled the situation.

By a little after 10:00 Thursday night, the intersection was reopened and those who had been evacuated were allowed to return home. Police have not yet released additional details about injuries or potential charges, but the investigation into the reckless‑driving crash remains active.
