MTCS Girls Basketball Head Coach Shala Ferrell Resigns After Successful Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS) announced on Tuesday that Shala Ferrell has resigned from her position as the head coach of the girls basketball program. Ferrell’s departure comes after a highly successful one-year tenure leading the Lady Cougars.

During the past season, Ferrell guided the team to a District Championship and a Region Runner-Up finish. The Cougars’ impressive run concluded with an appearance in the State XII. Despite the on-court success, Ferrell noted that the decision to step away was necessary to address family needs that require more of her time and attention.

"This was not an easy decision, as I truly value the relationships built with the players, families, and the program as a whole," Ferrell stated in a press release. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity and noted she will continue to support the program as a fan.

MTCS Athletic Director Jason Piercey praised Ferrell’s impact on the student-athletes, noting that while the school is disappointed to see her leave, they fully respect her commitment to her family. Piercey emphasized that Ferrell made a lasting impact on the program during her short time at the school.

The MTCS administration, led by President Matt Tiller and High School Principal Dr. Robert Sain, indicated that the search for Ferrell's successor is already underway. The school aims to find a leader who will continue to advance the program's mission both on and off the basketball court.
