LaVergne Town Hall Meeting Resolves Little, Deepens Divisions

The LaVergne town meeting held Thursday night to discuss the current unincorporation petition provided little more in the way of public forum than allowing distraught citizens to use the mayor and alderman as a punching bag.  So much was the case that after the first hour, the meeting all but degenerated into a verbal brawl, during which about a quarter of the several hundred in attendance left, voicing their disgust.  Mayor Senna Mosley engaged in frequent, personal exchanges with speakers, finding herself forced into an often hostile defensive position, using personal details and language that one speaker said made her feel threatened.  To be clear, the petition does not seek to dissolve the city entirely, rather only its charter, which sets up the mayor/alderman government.  Doing so would revert back to a commission based government, and a new election would be held for new officials.
