Sidney E. Gholson, 84, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025 in Murfreesboro, TN. Born in Lufkin, TX in 1941 and formerly of Batesville, GA, Sid was a devoted husband, loving father, and humble man of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Foster Gholson and Clowie Gholson, and his sister, Sarah Madden. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Crystal, children, Liesa Ann, Toni (husband Steve), grandchildren, Laura (husband James), Melissa (husband Jordan), Rachel (fiancé Devin), 4 great-grandchildren, as well as sister, Myrna Denman, and numerous loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro on May 26, 2025 at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm followed by internment at Providence Church in Batesville, Georgia at a later date.
Mrs. Peggy Louise Merritt McGowen, age 85, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of LaVergne, TN and a daughter of the late Herber E. and Hattie Smoot Sullins Merritt. Peggy started work at Bridgestone manufacturing tires and ended up retiring as a forklift driver. She was a member of Church of Christ.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Rita Dilman; grandchildren, Jenny Morgan and her husband William and Gina Averitt and her fiancé Chris Pendergrast; great grandchildren, Jason “J.W.” Underwood and his wife Heather, Justine Underwood, Cameron McKinney, Brayden Morgan, Kingston Woods, Gianna Woods, and Izzy Haynes; great great grandchildren, Jaelynn Underwood, Channing Underwood, James McKinney, and Wyatt Benjamin; sister, Shirley McGowen and her husband Evon; niece, Debra Sullivan; nephew, Eddie Worley; and her precious cats, Mama and Big Boy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Merritt and Mary Merritt; nephew, Christopher Worley; and great nephew, William Worley.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 12:00noon until 2:00pm at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 2:00pm at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna.
George R. Hickey, age 90, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Anthony and Barbara Hickey; wife, Sandra Hickey; daughter, Tracy
Hickey; sisters, Millie Allen, Marie Nash, Leona Kreighvaum, and Barbara Underwood;
brothers, Gene Hickey, Robert Hickey, Edwin Hickey, and Thomas Hickey.
He is survived by his sons, Marc Hickey and wife Angelica, Randall Hickey and wife
Andrea; grandchildren, Kaitlin Moneymaker (Aaron), Susan Yates (Terry), Alex Yates,
George Hickey, Samantha Hoover (Kenneth); great grandchildren, Wyatt, Emma,
Dallas, Evan, Michael, Camden; brothers, Kenny Hickey (Dianne) and Dennis Hickey
(Gogi); and many other family and friends.
George was a United States Marine Corp Veteran. He retired from Perrigo after 15 years
and worked at HD Lee Company for over 30 years. He was also a marshal at Smyrna
Golf Course for 20 years. George was an avid sportsman and excelled at every sport he
played including golf, softball, darts, and tennis. He was known for being a mentor to all
and doing anything for anyone. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 PM at
Woodfin Chapel Smyrna. Memorial service will begin at 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Tee at Smyrna Golf Course.
Mr. Bobby Joe Griggs, Sr., age 82, of Nashville, TN passed away Wednesday, May 7th, 2025. He was born in Nashville to the late Walter Lewis Griggs and Beatrice Marie Bolin Griggs. Mr. Griggs attended Nashville Central High School and graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College. He retired from Cumberland International as a shop foreman and service writer. Mr. Griggs worked in the automotive and trucking industry for many decades. He had a great love for automotive mechanics. He had a great love for the Lord most recently attending Christ Church Nashville and Lifepoint Church Smyrna.
Mr. Griggs is survived by his children, stepson, Mark Anderson and his wife Regina; daughter, Tara Rose and her husband Brian; and son, Bobby Griggs, Jr. and his wife Erica; grandchildren, Brittany Anderson Garcia, Cameron Anderson, Hayden Griggs, Makena Griggs, and Zachariah Rose; great grandchildren, John Anderson, River Garcia and Marynah Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Griggs was proceeded in death by his wife, Mrs. Harriett Griggs, who passed on April 24, 2024.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, May 23, 2025, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro from 4:30pm until the time of a Celebration of Life service beginning at 6:00pm.
Mr. James Troup, age 82, of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of the Holt’s Corner Community in Marshall County passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025 in Nashville, TN. James was born in Blytheville, AR to the late James Curtis Troup and Velma Hubble Troup. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and retired as a machinist at D & E Engineering. Mr. Troup was a member of Rover Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Troup Haywood, four sisters, and 3 brothers.
Mr. James loved his church and his church’s activities. He enjoyed camping trips and fellowshipping with friends and he never met a stranger. He was an avid gardener and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.
Mr. Troup is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Molly Howard Troup of Murfreesboro, TN; 3 grandchildren, Sara Ann Haywood, Mary Beth Haywood, Katie Grace Haywood, all of AL; 4 great grandchildren, Ethan, Jordan, John, Gracelynn; son-in-law, Brian Nelson; brother, Jerry (Janie) Troup of Memphis, TN; sister, Alice (Richard) Tart of Dyersburg, TN.

Nina Lee Sprinkle Gilbert, age 99 of Murfreesboro died Thursday May 15, 2025. She was a native of Lee County, VA . and was preceded in death by her parents, James Otis Sprinkle, Viola Kirk Sprinkle Good, husband Ray Gilbert and a granddaughter, Rachel Casper; siblings, Gene and wife Ann Sprinkle, Ray Sprinkle, Sarah Gay Sprinkle Lane, and husband Roger, Alice Ann Sprinkle Baker and husband Harry.
Mrs. Gilbert was a high school teacher in St. Charles, Virginia and Christiansburg, Virginia and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime member of St. Marks United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her daughters, Ellen Casper and husband Perry, Sarah Gilbert; sons, Clark Gilbert, Richard Gilbert and wife Kim; grandchildren, Daniel Wolterman and James Wolterman, Colin Gilbert.
