Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department’s District 2 and Engine 1 responded to a gas leak at 2320 Southgate Boulevard (Rutherford Academy) just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.

A backhoe service, digging 20 feet away from the building, ruptured a gas line. Children and staff of Rutherford Academy were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Atmos Energy responded to repair the leak.
