Martha Bass McCord, age 87, of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away on Wednesday, April
1, 2026. Born in Giles County, TN to the late Elvy and Kathleen Bass. She is also
preceded in death by her husband Dr. Richard McCord and her brothers, Bill Bass and
David Bass.
Martha is survived by her children, Kathy (Randy) Bennett and Chris (Rita) McCord and;
her grandchildren, Ashley (Jamie) McCurry, Ethan McCord, and Lucy McCord; and her
sister, Elaine (Rob) Brown; and her amazing caregivers, Darlene Holland, Charla
Hunter, and Doris Ann Goodner, and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was a graduate of Martin College and MTSU where she got her degree as a
teacher. She taught for 38 years at Hobgood and Northfield Elementary School. She
was a member at the First Baptist Church.
Visitation with the family will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel on Saturday April 4,
2026, starting at 11:00 AM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in
Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers assisting during the service are Jamie McCurry,
Jimmy Jobe, Prince Albert, Lyndell Parks, Greg Nicholson, and Randall Bennett.

Shari Laine Cable, age 58, passed away on March 31, 2026, at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, she made her home in Rutherford County, Tennessee.

Shari was preceded in death by her father, Thomas E. Knight, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Cable II; her children, Shani (Jesse) Gailbreath and Jeremy Lee; her cherished grandchildren, Dylan (Anna) Norton, Chandler Norton, and Jackson Gailbreath; her mother, Patricia Knight of Naples, Florida; and her sisters, Stephanie Knight and Sheryl (Eddie) Esquilin of Greenville, South Carolina. Shari found her greatest happiness in warm, sunny days spent outdoors, tending to her yard and creating a space filled with beauty and care. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs—Moe, Jinx, and Olive—whom she adored as part of her family.

Among the fond memories shared by her family are times spent together on the family farm—her love of yard work and gardening, enjoying the sunshine, and spending time talking and visiting with those she loved most. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the chapel service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. David Deavers will be officiating.

Shari will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Ofelia Vergel De Dios Roberts, age 63 of Smyrna, TN, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026. Born in Angat Bulacan, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Ildefonso Vergel De Dios, Sr. and Corazon Dolores Vergel De Dios. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rodel and Benedict Vergel De Dios, sister, Irma Razon, and a grandchild, Niyalee.

Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband, Curtis Dean Roberts, Sr.; son, Joseph (Andrea) Jandrokovic of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Colleen Frances Delaney of Smyrna, TN; eight grandchildren, Serenity, Elvera, Jason, Bryson, Lyrix, Jasmine, Joslyn and Andrew; one great-grandchild; Everleigh Ofelia; brother, Ildefonso Vergel De Dios, Jr. of Angat Bulacan, Philippines; sisters, Leny Vergel De Dios of Smyrna, TN, and Dolly Coffman of Smyrna, TN; stepchildren, Angela (Lloyd) Morris of Smyrna, TN, Curtis (Kelli) Roberts, Jr. of Smyrna, TN, and Joey Roberts of Nashville, TN; step-grandchildren, Carson, Peyton, Owen, Aliya, Jaxon, and Carter.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, April 10, 2026, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 11, 2026, at St. Luke Catholic Church with Father Phillip Halladay officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

Mrs. Roberts was a Processing Tech with DCI Donor Services, and a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Smyrna.

James Robert Whitley, age 90 of LaVergne, TN, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026. A native of Davidson, County, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas C. Whitley and Louella Seat Whitley. Mr. Whitley was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Annie Pauline “Polly” Knox Whitley, grandson-in-law, Gary Cumberland, and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Whitley is survived by his son, Robert Paul Whitley and his wife Sharon Evonne Whitley of Smyrna, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth “Liz” Cumberland and Ashley (Erik) Tomlinson both of Murfreesboro and Paul Randall (Nina) Whitley of Smyrna, TN; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Elizabeth, Ava, Reece, Easton, Luke, and Annie; niece, Donna Cox; nephews, Don Whitley and Alex Whitley.

Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with Rev. Ronnie Presley officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
