Memphis Man Charged with Assaulting Hospital Nurse

A 36-year old Memphis man is charged with assaulting a nurse at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Multiple hospital staff reported to Murfreesboro Police Officer Eric DeLeon that a subject named Santhanou Xayadeth punched, bit and choked a male nurse until he was unconscious during a scuffle. He even reportedly tried to gouge the nurses eyes with his thumbs.

The witnesses told the officer around 6 o'clock Tuesday (1/16/2018) night, the suspect tried to enter a trauma unit when the male nurse stopped him. That's when the alleged attack began.

Several witnesses were finally able to subdue the Xayadeth after the nurse was unconscious and hold the suspect until Officer DeLeon arrived.

The officer noted several facial injuries and swollen red areas on the nurse's neck. The victim was admitted into the hospital for his injuries, which included labored breathing.

Xayadeth, whose address was listed as homeless, was arrested on aggravated assault charges. He was taken to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on 25-thousand dollars bond. A February 27th court date has been set.

ADDITIONAL REPORT FROM FRANKLIN, TN POLICE

A Memphis driver is in serious trouble after fleeing the scene of an I-65 rollover crash that left a woman seriously injured.

At 8:30 Monday (1/15/2018) night, officers were dispatched to I-65 S, south of Murfreesboro Road, after a reckless driver ran a Spring Hill woman off the road and then fled the scene. The suspect forced the victim's vehicle into the retaining wall where it crashed and overturned. The suspect struck a second vehicle during the incident, but that driver was not injured.

Franklin Police issued an alert to surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. Lewisburg Police found the vehicle a short time later, wrecked out and abandoned at Exit 32. Franklin and Lewisburg Police worked together to determine that the driver was 36-year-old Santhanou Xayadeth of Memphis.

Franklin Police obtained warrants, charging Xayadeth with Reckless Endangerment, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, Failure to Report a Crash, and Driving on a Suspended License - 2nd Offense.

Officers determined that Xayadeth had, since the crashes in Franklin and in Lewisburg, been arrested in Rutherford County, where he is currently being held on unrelated charges. Upon his release from the Rutherford County Jail, Xayadeth will be remanded to custody in Williamson County to face misdemeanor and felony charges in Franklin. Xayadeth is a convicted felon with a violent history.
