Step back in time tonight as the Rutherford County Historical Society takes its monthly meeting on the road. At 6:30PM they meet at the renovated Ransom School which is located at 717 N. Academy Street. Walk into a classroom of the 1920's and be surrounded by local history.

In addition to the surroundings, tonight's Historical Society meeting will honor two of its leaders: Alice Newsom Ray and Ernie Johns.

Alice, a charter member and first treasurer of the Society, turned 97 years young in February. Ernie, also a charter member and former president of the Society, has been named Rutherford County Historian, Emeritus, by the Rutherford County Commission, after serving in the position for over 30 years.

Those attending the meeting will have the chance to wish Ernie and Alice happiness and to tour the school building so graciously donated to the society by the Arnett family. Several members, particularly E.C. and Barbara Tolbert have been transforming one of the rooms into a vintage 1920's classroom, with desks, maps, blackboards, inkwells, books, and other educational memorabilia. You won’t want to miss this amazing museum of schoolroom curios and antiques.

Those attending will also have the chance to browse and purchase from our large selection of historical publications. Again, tonight's (Monday, 4/15/2013) meeting of the Rutherford County Historical Society will be at the old Ransome School at 717 North Academy Street here in Murfreesboro. It begins at 6:30PM.
