MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee Christian School is turning to a proven winner to take over its baseball program. MTCS announced the hiring of Alex Huey as the new head baseball coach for the Cougars. Huey moves into the head position after spending the last three years at Columbia Academy. During his time there as an assistant and pitching coach, he helped guide the Bulldogs to consecutive Division Two-A state championships.
MTCS Athletic Director Jason Piercey expressed strong excitement about the hire, noting that Huey brings a deep passion for the game, strong leadership, and a commitment to mentoring young men. Piercey says Huey will have a lasting spiritual influence on the students by encouraging growth in faith and character. MTCS President Matt Tiller echoed those sentiments, calling Huey a tremendous addition who will grow a program rooted in competition and faith.
Huey brings an extensive and decorated baseball background to Rutherford County. A native of Chapel Hill, he won a state championship as a player at Columbia Academy in 2018, earning Player of the Year honors. He followed that with a stellar career at Freed-Hardeman University, where he became the school's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched. Huey says he is ready to bring energy, passion, and toughness to both the classroom and the diamond.
