MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee Christian School is welcoming an area standout to lead its volleyball program. MTCS officials announced Tuesday that Maymie Guthrie will take over as the new head volleyball coach for the Cougars.
Guthrie comes to the Murfreesboro campus with an extensive athletic background at both the high school and collegiate levels. A native of Nolensville, she previously captained the Nolensville High School team to three state championships and earned Region MVP honors during her senior season. She also spent eight seasons playing with the Alliance Volleyball Club and dedicated time to coaching and officiating youth leagues.
Following her high school success, Guthrie moved on to play Division I volleyball at the University of North Florida. During her time with the Ospreys, she served as a team captain and earned All-Atlantic Sun Conference Academic Honors every year of her career.
MTCS Athletic Director Jason Piercey expressed strong confidence in Guthrie's ability to impact the program. Piercey noted her outstanding passion for the sport and her vision for leadership. He added that school leaders are especially excited about the spiritual impact she will have on students as she encourages them to deepen their faith.
Guthrie expressed excitement about joining the MTCS community. She stated that she looks forward to building the program and creating a culture that helps athletes grow both on and off the court.
MTCS President Matt Tiller echoed those sentiments, stating that Guthrie's energy and Christ-centered approach align perfectly with the school's vision of faith, excellence, and competitive success.
