WOODBURY, Tenn. — After weeks of public questions surrounding law enforcement activity at a Cannon County business, the Cannon County Sheriff’s Office released additional details tied to compliance operations conducted last month at an area store named Blue Wing Market.
According to a statement issued by the sheriff’s office, deputies launched the investigation following community complaints and reports alleging that vape products and Hemp-Derived Cannabinoid Products, commonly referred to as HDCP items, were being sold to minors.
Authorities said the compliance effort took place on May 8, 2026, utilizing underage volunteers who were working under law enforcement supervision. During one encounter, investigators allege an employee became suspicious about a possible police presence while interacting with a juvenile participant.
The Cannon County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that the worker allegedly questioned the teen about age, opened a vape item during the transaction, and handed the product to the juvenile before ultimately canceling the purchase. Officials further stated the employee reportedly asked to inspect the juvenile’s cellphone after becoming concerned the interaction may have been recorded.
During another compliance check, authorities claim a juvenile volunteer was able to successfully purchase an HDCP product from the business.
Investigators also noted that the employee involved had reportedly failed two prior compliance inspections and had previously received citations and warnings indicating future violations could result in criminal charges.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the allegations remain accusations at this stage of the process and that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The agency additionally stated that no juveniles were harmed or placed in danger during the operation.
In the released statement, the Cannon County Sheriff’s Office said it plans to continue conducting inspections and investigations targeting the unlawful distribution of restricted products to minors throughout the county.
