UPDATE: LA VERGNE, Tenn. — A dangerous late-night pursuit in La Vergne ended in a crash, a ruptured gas line, and neighborhood evacuations after a driver attempted to flee police at extreme speeds, according to La Vergne Police. WGNS first reported the incident on Thursday night (See previous reports HERE)

According to authorities, an officer observed a vehicle traveling more than 30 miles per hour over the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop with emergency lights and sirens activated. While trying to catch up from a distance, the officer reported that the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and continued driving recklessly.

Police report the suspect vehicle traveled toward Nir Shreibman Boulevard, where it crashed into another vehicle and struck a gas line at the intersection of Nir Shreibman Boulevard and Ramsden Avenue. Multiple officers responded quickly and safely removed occupants from both vehicles.

Due to the ruptured gas line and immediate safety concerns, officers physically carried one individual to a safer location before evacuations began. Officers then went door to door, notifying nearby residents of the danger and advising them to evacuate as a precaution.

The La Vergne Fire Department also responded to the scene, assisting with emergency operations and helping manage the hazardous conditions created by the gas leak. Police praised the fire department’s swift and professional response, noting that strong interagency teamwork played a critical role in keeping residents and responders safe.

The suspect driver was transported to a hospital for treatment. The two occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were also taken for medical evaluation. The extent of injuries has not been released.

The suspect driver now faces multiple charges, including felony evading, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended license. Police say additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.

Officials thanked area residents for their cooperation and patience during the evacuations, as well as the gas company and all emergency personnel who worked to secure the area. Authorities emphasized that incidents like this underscore the importance of responsible driving and quick, coordinated emergency response.
