Re-Drawing District

Part of the conversation on WGNS' local election coverage included news of talks about changing some of the district boundaries.

Chairman Jones noted that as Rutherford county's population nears the 400,000 point and becomes Tennessee's fourth largest county, that officials are seesing the need to re-evaluate the district boundaries.

State Senator Dawn White also commented that Rutherford County's population increase puts us in-line for more state representatives.

In the pst, the word gerrymandering would frequently pop-up, when conversation turned to the U.S. Fourth District of Tennessee. The district includes all of Rutherford, Bedford, Warren, Marshall, Franklin, Lincoln and Moore countxies in Middle Tennessee. It weaves into East Tennessee past Chattanooga to include Bledsoe, Grundy, Marion, Meigs, Moore, Rhea and Sequatchie counties.

In addition to those full counties, the 4th U.S. District includes large portions of Bradley (Cleveland, TN on extreme border of south east Tennessee), Maury and Van Buren counties.

There was no estimated redistricting time period given, only that conversation about re-drawing districts was being discussed.
