A special walk will be held for something that most of us don’t think twice about, even as we use this powerful life-saving resource daily - - Water. Healing Hands International, in conjunction with numerous local churches, schools, and other community partners, are coming together to hold the inaugural Middle Tennessee Walk 4 Water in Smyrna… That was Aaron Tremblay, a minister in Rutherford County. Donations raised at the October 16th walk will help fund the construction of wells in South and Central Africa, areas where people don’t have access to clean water. Specifically, funds will go towards building wells in Malawi and Zambia.
The upcoming walk on Sunday, October 16th is free for participants and will start and end in the parking lot of a local Smyrna church at 112 Division Street. The event will be on that Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Tremblay stated, “The four-mile walk through Smyrna will also raise awareness throughout Middle Tennessee about the need for access to clean water around the world.”
The walk is a symbolic 4-miles. Tremblay said, “There are people in the world who have to walk an average of four miles each day to draw water, which is often not sanitary.” After the walk on October 16th… Organizations in the area have hosted walks for many years. This year local coordinators are expanding participation to increase the impact.
Thanks to coordination with Town of Smyrna officials, participants can safely walk, and have bus transportation back to the church at mile markers one, two and three. Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of ability.
FREE Registration is available online at HHI.org/Walk4Water/Smyrna-TN-2022. Each participant receives a free t-shirt and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference in an underserved area. “Clean water changes lives,” Tremblay added. “We hope to have record attendance so we can make a major difference around the globe.”
Aaron Tremblay will be a guest on the air with WGNS Tuesday, October 4th. He will join us from 8:15AM to 9AM to talk about the upcoming event.
